ModemMeta is a focused utility for technicians who work with Mediatek devices. It simplifies IMEI/NVRAM tasks: backing up IMEI data, restoring it, and writing IMEI entries when required. The tool is intended for legitimate repair and recovery on devices you own or are authorised to service.
Legal notice: Modifying or writing IMEI/identity data may be illegal in some countries. Use ModemMeta only for lawful repairs (e.g., restoring a device you own after a corrupted NVRAM). If in doubt, check local laws and the device owner’s permission.
Why use ModemMeta?
- Simple UI: Installer package with a compact interface for fast technician workflows.
- IMEI write & repair: Safely write/restore IMEI and NVRAM database files used by Mediatek radios.
- Backup/restore: Create backups before making changes so you can revert if needed.
- Mediatek focus: Built specifically for Mediatek-based phones, tablets and feature phones (Qualcomm/Spreadtrum require different tools).
- Lightweight & offline: Small footprint and easy to run on most Windows machines.
Main features (at a glance)
- Backup IMEI / NVRAM (DB) files
- Restore IMEI / NVRAM from backup
- Write/flash IMEI entries to Mediatek devices
- Auto-detect USB/COM ports for easier device connection
- Installer-based setup for Windows PCs
Supported devices
ModemMeta supports devices powered by Mediatek chipsets only. This typically covers a wide range of brands (Xiaomi/Redmi, Oppo, Vivo, Realme, Tecno, Infinix, many generic models) but not Qualcomm or SPD models. Always verify chipset type before using the tool.
Safe installation & pre-checks
- Use a clean Windows PC with Administrator rights.
- Install official Mediatek USB drivers (VCOM/DA drivers) for your device.
- Disable antivirus temporarily if it blocks installer tools (re-enable after install).
- Keep a full phone backup (user data) if possible.
- Locate the device’s original NVRAM/DB files from firmware packages or produce a backup first.
Step-by-step: backup & write IMEI
- Install drivers: Install Mediatek VCOM drivers and any vendor-specific USB drivers.
- Install ModemMeta: Run the installer as Administrator and follow prompts.
- Prepare DB/NVRAM: If available, extract the device’s
nvramorap_dbfile from the stock firmware; keep it handy. - Connect device: Power off the phone. Connect it to PC via USB (some devices require specific key combos or boot modes — check model notes).
- Choose platform: In ModemMeta select Smartphone (or the appropriate Mediatek platform) and ensure
USBis the selected port type. - Detect device: Click Connect and wait for the tool to detect the device. Detection may take several seconds.
- Backup (recommended): Click Backup DB/NVRAM to save the current IMEI/nvram before making changes. Store the backup in a safe folder.
- Load DB: Use Load DB to import the extracted
nvram/DB file if required by your operation. - Write IMEI: Select IMEI Download / Write from the menu, enter the IMEI exactly as printed on the phone (or on the box), then click Write.
- Verify: Look for a confirmation message (e.g., “Write IMEI to target successfully”). Reboot the device and confirm cellular connectivity.
Troubleshooting tips
- Driver not detected: Reinstall Mediatek VCOM drivers and try a different USB port or cable.
- Device not entering proper mode: Some Mediatek phones require battery removal or a test point; consult model-specific guides.
- Write fails / timeout: Reboot PC, reconnect, try with a different DB/NVRAM file or use the backup restore option.
- IMEI not showing: Re-check that the IMEI was entered correctly; verify with
*#06#or in Settings → About → Status.
Best practices & safety
- Always backup NVRAM/DB before writing.
- Use the exact IMEI printed on the device or provided legally by the owner.
- Do not distribute tools or illegal IMEI lists.
- Keep driver and tool installs isolated in a repair-only machine to reduce conflicts.
